BackQRT Meeting was conducted at Arid Region Campus, Bikaner

The QRT Chairman Prof M.L.Madan, Ex-DDG Animal Sciences and Ex-Vice Chancellor of DUVASU Mathura and member Dr A E Nivesarkar, Ex-Director,  NBAGR Karnal visited Arid Region Campus of the Institute from 26-27 October, 2017 for appraisal of research activities at farm and field, achievements, infrastructural development, man-power, etc. Dr A K Patel, Head of station welcomed the QRT and Director CSWRI Dr Arun Kumar Tomar, Dr S M K Naqvi Former Director & PS and Dr C P Swarnkar Member Secretary. Dr  Tomar briefly introduced the activities, achievements, facilities created and major initiative undertaken during 2011-16 at ARC Bikaner.

In the morning, QRT team along with all members visited the institute farm for on spot appraisal of Chokla, Magra and Marwari sheep sectors and discussed at length regarding research targets, achievements, dissemination of the superior germplasm in the field for genetic improvement and difficulties being faced at farm and field. The breeding rams of Magra were distributed to the farmers by the Chairman. The team also visited Feed Technology unit, A I Lab  and Machine Shearing unit. The chairman showed his interest in Multi Nutrient Mixture (MNM) developed at ARC Bikaner and advised to start use of MNM for feeding lambs at our centre. QRT also showed interest in application of machine shearing in field and farm. Dr A K Patel, Head made detailed presentation on the research projects, achievements, infrastructure development and future plan. The chairman showed his satisfaction on the progress of station and suggested to adopt genomic selection.  The visit of QRT was arranged in adopted village under the Network Project on Magra Field Unit. The team had discussion with the farmers regarding the usefulness of the project in their area. The farmers told the team that sheep breed have been improved by use of breeding rams given by ARC and mortality rate has been reduced from 15-20 to 2-3 percent.  

Next day on 27th October the QRT visited the laboratory of Central Wool Development Board and wool industry to assess the status of wool processing activities in Bikaner. The team had discussion at length with the wool mill owners regarding the wool production, import, processing of wool, yarn manufacturing and export of carpet from India. In the end of visit, the Chairman expressed that Arid Region Campus is continuously progressing and transferring the technologies to the farmers. Dr C P Swarnkar, Senior Scientist and Member Secretary recorded the proceedings of meeting.
