BackDumba sheep sold at record price of Rs 75,000 at ICAR-CSWRI

For the first time in ICAR-Central Sheep and Wool Research Institute history, a male Dumba sheep has been sold for a record price of Rs. 75000/- (Rupees seventy five  thousand only). Dumba (fat-tail) sheep is hardy and adaptable to hot semi-arid environment conditions. The faster growth, high reproductive efficiency, fine wool quality and more milk yield of Dumba sheep shows its potential in enhancing the sheep production. Mr Shakti Singh, Dhobi village, Hanumangarh district of Rajasthan State, bid Dumba ram for the highest price during auction in ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar on 19th August 2016. This Dumba ram ageing 16 months and weighed 88 kg has extraordinary body build with long legs and large fat-tail and off-white in colour. Mr Shakti Singh informed during interaction that he is happy with bidding price and he would use the ram for breeding to meet the high market demand of Dumba sheep. He added that Turkish Dumba, popularly known as fat-tailed sheep would costs close to Rs 1 lakh.
