BackFarmers-Scientists interaction cum free Sirohi goat distribution programme to BPL Scheduled Caste (SC) goat farmers at ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar on 16.02.2024



 A Farmers-Scientists interaction cum free Sirohi goat distribution programme was organized at Sirohi goat sector, ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar on 16.02.2024. Five entitled farmers from Scheduled Caste (SC) community belonging to the Below Poverty Line (BPL) from village Chandsen, Malpura were freely distributed with a total of 10 genetically improved Sirohi hogget females (02 hogget females each) under the Scheduled Caste Sub-Plan (SCSP) component of Sirohi goat project (ICAR-AICRP on goat improvement). The programme was organized under the Chairmanship of Dr. Arun Kumar, Director, ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar who highlighted the important aspects of scientific goat farming. Farmers were encouraged to show more involvement with the Institute activities on their part to harvest maximum benefits of having the Institute neighboring their village. It was emphasized that through rearing of true to breed Sirohi goats given from ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar and adopting the improved breeding, feeding, healthcare and general management technologies/strategies developed by the Institute, the farmers can improve their livelihood and socioeconomic status. Different issues related to goat farming as faced by the farmers were also discussed. The programme was attended by the PI, Dr. S.S. Misra, Co-PIs, Dr. P.K. Mallick and Dr. K.A. Saravanan; media Incharge Dr. A.S. Meena, beneficiary farmers, their family members and all goat sector staff. It was coordinated by Dr. S.S. Misra, Principal Investigator, Sirohi goat project (AICRP) and Head, AGB Division.
