BackTraining on woollen product manufacturing for rural women inaugurated at CSWRI



Central Sheep and wool research institute has developed technology to utilize coarse wool for making woolen handicrafts. In this context, a training program on woolen product manufacturing and designing for rural women has been inaugurated at the institute on 24.03.14. Dr. M. P. Yadav, Secretary, National Academy of Agriculture Science (NAAS) presided over the inauguration function as a chief guest. Dr. Yadav said in his address that women empowerment is the need of the time. Such training programs will open new employment opportunities for rural women and improve their social respect and dignity. In the presidential address, Dr. S M K Naqvi, Director, CSWRI mentioned that it is the third program being conducted for rural women skill enhancement and their empowerment. He explained the technologies developed by the institute for coarse wool utilization and converting them into value added products. Dr. D. B. Shakyawar, Principal Scientist and I/C TMTC informed briefly about the background, importance and subject areas to be covered under the programs. The program is being sponsored by Central Wool Development Board.

On this occasion, two folders namely, “Innovative anti-moth finishing for pashmina shawls” and "Development of standard quality norms for pashmina shawls" is also released by the chief guest for technology dissemination. The institute has recently developed and patented technology of pashmina fibre identification through PCR based technique under National Agricultural Innovation Project (NAIP) on Pashmina fibre. In this context, a five days training for faculty members consortium partner institute i.e. Sher-E-Kashmir University of agricultural science and technology, Kashmir (SKUAST) has been inaugurated on March 24, 2014. The participants will get exposure to learn the technique through hands on training. Er. Vinod Kadam, I/C HRD and Scientist, TMTC coordinated the program and proposed vote of thanks.
