BackCelebration of World Environment Day at ICAR-CSWRI



 On the occasion of World Environment Day on 05.06.2023, the Division of Animal Genetics & Breeding under the guidance of Dr. Arun Kumar, Director, ICAR-CSWRI, Avikanagar, organized a plantation programme in all the livestock sectors as well as in the farmers’ field in line with this years’ theme ‘Solutions to plastic pollution’.

In the in house programme, the five sheep (sectors 12, 13, 15, 18) and goat sectors of the Institute planted five Mulberry plants each (a total of 25 plants) under the observation and participation of respective sector Incharges, LSAs and and other personnel.

Under the field programme, as an initiative of Malpura Sheep Project (MSSP), 25 Mulberry plants were planted in nearby Bheepur village in collaboration with the registered farmers and other villagers. Also a kishan gosthi and awareness camp was organized there. The programmes were attended by the farmers farmers alongwith Dr. P.K. Mallick, PI, Malpura Project; Dr. Rajiv Kumar, Senior Scientist, AGB Division; Dr. S.S. Misra, Head, AGB Division; Sh. Yogiraj Meena, Senior Technical Officer; Dr. Anurag Mahla, Veterinary Officer and other project personnel. Dr. Mallick apprised the audience about the significance of World Environment Day and the importance of adopting required practices like plantation of trees in on a regular basis to keep the environment healthy. Dr. Rajiv Kumar elaborated in details the dangers from use of plastics, why plastic pollution is the biggest threat to the environment and immediate solutions to this menace. Sh. Yogiraj Meena talked about the traditional good practices farmers used to follow and the need of adopting millets as part of our daily food. Farmer representatives also expressed their view on conservation of environment in our own interest. Dr. Misra emphasized that it is not only important to plant more trees but also to take proper care of them to help them survive so that we can ultimately get benefitted. The programme ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Arurag.
