Back2.0 kg body weight achieved in broiler rabbits in less than 9 weeks of age

The target weight of 2.0 kg has been achieved in less than 9 weeks of age in broiler rabbits at the CSWRI Rabbit Unit at Avikanagar. The target weight of 2.0 kg is generally achieved at 12 weeks of age or more. This high growth has been recorded recently in three Soviet Chinchilla male weaners achieving an average body weight of 2.05kg. The early achievement of 2.0 kg finisher weight in broiler rabbits will reduce the cost of feed and improve the economics of broiler rabbit production. Such high producing animals are being given preference in the selection programme to produce an elite flock of broiler rabbits at CSWRI Avikanagar, which is the repository of quality broiler rabbit germplasm in the country.
